Title: NJ TRANSIT'S NEW OPERATIONS CONTROL CENTER AT THE MEADOWS MAINTENANCE COMPLEX - A DESIGN OVERVIEW
Abstract: New Jersey Transit is a full service transit agency with headquarters in Newark, NJ, providing rail, bus, and paratransit service throughout the state of New Jersey. Rail operations has responsibility for 13 heavy rail commuter lines on approximately 750 miles (1205 km) of track owned by NJT, Amtrak, and Conrail. NJ Transit's current operations control center in Hoboken has become overcrowded and unable to support planned growth in the rail network. Further, the historical site on which it is located has become commercially valuable and plans are underway for conversion to shops. Restoration of the ferry terminal for service between Hoboken and New York is also planned. This paper describes the man factors that influenced the site selection and design of NJ Transit's control center and its associated computer and communications support system, as well as future needs associated with new systems, functions, and territory, along with the architectural requirements of the selected site.
