Abstract: In assessing the contribution of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights to the nature of human rights in international law, this chapter focuses on two broad indicators, that is the say, firstly, the extent of the legal provision in the texts applied and interpreted by the relevant supervisory body and secondly, the manner in which the body actually applies its mandate interpreting these texts. the chapter then reviews the steer provided by the tools and resources of the human rights trade in terms of the international instruments that the Court is expected to interpret, as well as the Court's general outlook on, and application of the general principles of international human rights law.
