Title: Cerebral Dysfunction Related to Local and Global Ischemia of the Brain
Abstract: Ischemia of the brain is a reduction of cerebral blood flow below a critical threshold necessary for maintaining normal metabolic and physiological function (Siesjö et al., 1976). For the understanding of the pathophysiology of ischemia, two different types of cerebral dysfunction have to be distinguished: disturbances which occur during ischemia and disturbances which develop during recirculation after ischemia (Hossmann, 1977).
