Abstract: The story of women in the practice of law generally, and in the practice of family law in particular, has been one of courage. Women had to fight to be admitted into the legal profession. They had to fight for every step forward-for admission to state bars, admission to the federal bar, admission to law schools, and then even for admission to some professors' classes. After graduation, they had to fight for positions in law firms and credibility as professionals. This essay traces the history of women in the law and in the practice of family law over the course of the twentieth century.
