Title: Understanding 412b25: another look at "De Anima" II.1
Abstract: At 412b25, Aristotle claims that is not that which has lost its soul which is potentially such as to live, but that which possesses it.1 What are we to make of this passage? Commentators often simply ignore it. They become so entangled in the accounts of the soul that precede it that they have little energy left for any comment on it. As a result, they either say nothing or say nothing very interesting about the passage and its relationship to the rest of De Anima II. 1.2
