Title: The interaction of brown-coal semicoke with the plastic mass of hard coals
Abstract: Brown-coal semicoke actively adsorbs the liquid-viscous part of the plastic mass of a coal charge and interacts chemically with it. At a definite degree of comminution and ratio of the components, the production of strong coke is ensured. The density of the charge and the strength of the coke rise substantially when the charge is subjected to preliminary heating. The mechanism of the interaction of brown-coal semicoke with the plastic mass of Kuznetsk coals is based on the absorption of the plastic mass on the external and internal surfaces of the porous structure of the grains of semicoke and its subsequent active interaction with the substance of the semicoke, as is shown by a considerable rise in the yield of coke and a substantially greater mechanical strength of its substance as compared with the use of USTK dust, which possesses a low chemical activity. The most favorable conditions for obtaining strong coke are the grinding of the BSC to a grain size of less than 0.1 mm and that of the enclosing part of the charge to a 90% content of the 3-0 mm class. The preliminary thermal treatment of charges with pyrolyzed leaning additives of the BSC type leadsmore » to an increase in the bulk density of the charges and to a rise in the mechanical strength of the coke.« less
