Abstract: From the Delagoa savannah, across the deserts of Baluchistan, through to the Kerala backwaters, we have in the first volume traveled a long way; the Arabian seas encompassed a bewildering variety of microregions, each with its local patterns. Yet while the history of the sea does not encapsulate or explain the history of the micro-regions, that of the sea is more than merely their historical sum. Furthermore, there are some common elements that are instead history in the Arabian seas rather than of the Arabian seas; these are components of a far larger set. As for commerce: throughout the Arabian seas it was conducted through similar financial institutions. One is inevitably reminded of the grand tour his fellow nobles in Northern Europe would undertake to visit sites in the Christian holy lands, while a few intrepid travelers would venture as far as Baghdad, Isfahan, or-Jeddah.Keywords: Arabian seas; Europe
