Title: Predators and parasites - enemies of crop pests and farmers friend
Abstract: Guidelines are given for the wise and limited application of pesticides on crops, and the undesirable side-effects of the unwise use of chemicals are listed, with reference to the control of animal pests (especially insects) of crops in India. To facilitate integrated control by the combination of cultural, mechanical, chemical and biological methods, a list is given of the major crops (rice, sugar-cane, sorghum (jowar), cotton, mustard, potato and other vegetables) with the insects injurious to each (totalling 27 species) and the predators, parasites and diseases attacking each pest species. Most of these natural enemies were arthropods, but a few birds were included among the predators, and pathogenic fungi were included among the parasites
