Title: Efficiency of Various Herbicides on Weed Control and Yield of Brinjal
Abstract: A field experiment was conducted for three winter seasons under irrigated conditions to identify the effective integrated weed management practices for brinjal. The major weeds were: Cyperus rotundus, Legasca millis, Cleome viscosa, Panicum sp. Among the treatments, metolachlor applied at 1.5 kg/ha recorded lowest weed dry matter of 23.1 and 18.4 g/m2 during 1996–97 and 1997–98 and oxyfluorfen @ 0.15 kg/ha during 1998–99 (21 g/m2). Herbicide applied at higher levels recorded lower weed dry matter as compared to herbicides applied at lower levels and integrated with hand weeding. Fruit yield of brinjal in the plots treated with butachlor, pendimethalin, metolachlor, alachior, each 1.0 kg/ha or oxyfluorfen @0.10 kg/ha fb HW at 40 DAP was at par with weed free check and was significantly higher as compared to application of herbicides at higher levels.
