Title: MASS SPECTROMETRY | Ionization Methods Overview
Abstract: This article covers ionization methods used for mass spectrometry. Techniques discussed include electron impact ionization (EI), chemical ionization CI), field ionization (FI) and field desorption (FD), fast-atom bombardment (FAB), thermospray, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI), electrospray (ESI) and associated ambient ionization techniques such as desorption electrospray ionization (DESI). EI, ESI and MALDI are currently the most widely used techniques but the older techniques such as FI, FD and FAB are included mainly for historical reference.
