Abstract: This article reports on an innovative new funding stream created in Arkansas for public and community transportation. In March 2001, the state legislature passed a law that created Arkansas Public Transit Trust Fund whose main source of funds is the newly created rental vehicle tax. The moneys from this fund will be used by the State transportation department for the purpose of acquiring matching funds for the purchase of public transit vehicles, equipment, or facilities.
