At the present time Mexican Railways aggregate in length about 4 500 miles, with about 750 miles more whose construction is in hand or is about to be commenced at an early date; not including roads operated by animal power, of which there are quite a number, some of them being of considerable importance, like the line from Vera Cruz to Jalapa, which is 61 miles long.
