Title: A Model Study on Information Sharing to Tame the Bullwhip Effect in Supply Chain
Abstract: Supply chain management has been a subject of both theoretical and empirical studies in the operations management literature. A major cause of supply chain deficiencies is the bullwhip effect. As a peculiar phenomenon in supply chain management, it has become a concern to both scholars and managers. Among the many ways to taming the bullwhip effect, information sharing is considered to be one of the most effective one. After briefly reviewing current research in information sharing, this paper introduces a model of information sharing and derives a threshold value. Based on the reality, the conditions for the threshold value are reconstructed. The result shows that the application of the two models contributes to effective measuring and controlling of information sharing, which is of theoretical value to the relieving of the bullwhip effect.
