Title: Application of momentum theory in counterrotating propeller design
Abstract: A method for the design of counterrotating propellers is given in which the interaction effects of the two propellers are largely determined with momentum theory. This approach permits in a simple manner allowance for slipstream contraction and for mutually induced pressures in the cavitation calculation. The radial distributions of the mutually induced velocities are calculated with lifting line theory. Mutually induced effects are separated from self induced effects in such a way that each propeller can be designed with a design procedure for single propellers. Numerical results, which indicate satisfactory agreement with experiments, are discussed.
