Abstract: In this chapter, the world of apothecary in Montpellier should be treated according to multiple parameters that need to be addressed one by one to better understand the medical, economic and social roles of apothecaries of the city. This chapter examines the social and economic importance in more detail, it is necessary to attempt to define their duties, their skills and their actual role in the practice of care. Grocers and apothecaries, for their part, seem to be virtually interchangeable. If doctors do not seem overly involved in the apothecary in the 13th century, we see then issuing, in their statutes of 1340, a section which increased their role in practise of the profession. Yet around the same year 1496, a petition was sent to Charles VIII by apothecaries to preserve the autonomy of their profession. The original text of the chapter is in French. Keywords: apothecary; doctors; grocers; medical role; Montpellier
