There is a description of bus lanes in which cyclists and pedestrians are also allowed, and bus roads reserved for buses only. It has been found that walking distances to stops are usually shorter, and that the distance between the bus road or lane and the buildings can be as little as 15 M without the sound level exceeding 55 db(a), provided that the newer types of quiet buses are used. Routes can be planned rationally, and the first and running costs of the bus road are recouped over 2-3 years due to the provision of better service. /TRRL/Read More
