Title: Inferential statistics and hypothesis testing.
Abstract: This chapter introduces the principles of inferential statistics and significance testing, explains the null hypothesis and enumerates the basic procedure for conducting statistical significance tests. The setting of the critical level of probability for accepting or rejecting the null hypothesis and the concept of one- and two-tailed significance tests are described. The errors and fallacies in significance testing are discussed. An example of a two-tailed test is shown, using the data on the milk protein level of the new and old breeds of a daity cow.
