Title: Development of a New Analysis Method for Prestressed Concrete Box Girder Bridges
Abstract: The conventional design of prestressed concrete box girder bridges has been based on linear elastic analyses from simplified geometric models. To overcome the restriction involved in the simplication, a macro element for the rational analysis of prestressed concrete box girder bridges with variable cross section is formulated. In the present analysis the structure is considered as a linear assemblage of consecutive elements forming a substructure. To simulate realistic behavior of the concrete box girder bridges, the effect of prestressing is included in the macro element formulation. The advantage of using the macro element in the bridge analysis lies in the fact that it can model easily arbitrary geometries and support conditions of actual bridges. The proposed formulation can be used efficiently for the realistic analysis of prestressed concrete box girder bridges with arbitrary shapes.
