Title: The Stone Serpent Mound of Boyd County, Kentucky: An Investigation of a Stone Effigy Structure
Abstract: The Stone Serpent Mound of Boyd County, Kentucky (15Bd6), is a well-preserved example of a relatively rare prehistoric effigy mound. An instrument survey and limited subsurface excavations revealed details of mound configuration, construction techniques, and integrity, but produced no cultural remains or datable material. The site is compared to other midwestern and southeastern United States serpent effigies. Suggestions concerning site age and function are made.
