Abstract: This section of the book World Catalogue of Insects presents a list of species removed from Drosophilidae. The book focuses on the Drosophilidae, which is a large, cosmopolitan family of acalyptrate flies (Diptera, Schizophora). Drosophilidae is one of the most important groups of insects, because it includes the model organism Drosophila melanogaster Meigen, which has been studied intensively by geneticists, developmental biologists and others. With the continuing loss of traditional taxonomic expertise on one hand and the increasing importance of molecular taxonomy and barcoding on the other hand, it is very important to have a solid framework of names as a basis for future research on Drosophilidae. Keywords: acalyptrate flies; Drosophilidae; molecular taxonomy; species
