Title: Fungi associated with fruit rots of papaya in the State of Maranhao, Brazil.
Abstract: Nine genera of fungi were identified causing fruit rot of papaya in different counties of the Maranhao State, Brazil. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Fusarium solani, Corynespora cassiicola and Phytophthora palmivora were the predominant fungi, with 100%, 72,2%, 44,4% and 22,2% field incidence, respectively. Other fungi found were Alternaria sp., Aspergillus sp., Cladosporium sp., Colletotrichum dematium and Lasiodiplodia theobromae. Patogenicity tests were negative for Aspergillus sp., Cladosporium sp. and C. dematium and positive for the other fungi.
