Title: Surveillance on Food Poisoning Occurred in 2008, Guangzhou
Abstract: Objective To analyze the status and epidemiological characteristics of food poisoning occurred in 2008, Guangzhou. Methods Data of food poisoning occurred in Guangzhou in 2008 was analyzed according to the season, month, location of the exposures took place, etiology and the track of contamination. Results Total 76 food poisoning outbreaks were reported, led to three deaths and 668 cases. The number of outbreaks and cases caused by microorganisms was the largest, with 39 events(51.32%) and 411 cases(61.53%). Poisonous propagations caused 16 events(21.05%), 143 cases (21.41%) and 2 death cases(66.67%); chemical agents caused 14 events(18.42%), one deaths(33.33% ) and 60 cases (8.98%). Seven(9.21%) unconfirmed etiology events led to 54 cases (8.08%). Microorganisms accounted for the highest cases per outbreaks (10.54 cases), while chemical agents of maximum at fatality rate (1.67%). Conclusion The situation of food poisoning in Guangzhou is still severe, preventive measures should be strengthened to decrease the burden of disease.
