Title: Shuttle rendezvous and proximity operations
Abstract: Shuttle rendezvous and proximity operations trajectory control techniques are reviewed and it is noted that they have been affected by many factors including Shuttle system design constraints such as limited forward RCS and single point radar failures. Crew training requirements and mission operations constraints such as large launch windows, flexibility, and contingency profile interrupts are also integral factors. The resulting trajectory control design primarily uses ground support for the launch and orbit adjust phases, standardized crew techniques utilizing onboard software for the relative navigation flight phase, and mission unique manual control for a flexible proximity operations phase.
