Title: THE BEST OF EUROPEAN DESIGN: RAIL TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
Abstract: The increasing problems of mobility are forcing many countries to turn to rail-based transportation solutions, fueling something of a world rail revival in recent years. Governments, meanwhile, are becoming less willing to commit public funds to rail projects. Industry innovation is, to some extent, guided by a need both to cut costs and increase efficinecy and, at the same time, to provide higher levels of passenger comfort in order to be competitive with other modes. The paper reviews the movement to unify high speed rail lines in Europe.
