Title: DEVELOPMENT OF THREE-PHASE ELECTRICAL PROPULSION PLANTS FOR SHIPS
Abstract: Through development of new design principles for motors and alternators, renewed interest has been displayed in the use of electrical propulsion plants for ships to deal with new kinds of transportation problems. An example of the increased efficiency attainable by the use of synchronous machines is given in a description of a 20 MW drive alternator. By suitable design and construction techniques, its weight has been reduced by about 30% compared with a conventional turbogenerator. Order from BSRA as No. 53,454.
