Abstract: Mr. Albert provides a brief history of the development of the traffic management systems in Houston, and the lessons that have been learned. In Houston, a regionwide approach is being taken to implement, operate, maintain, and fund the traffic management system. The Houston area--with 560 sq mi, 5 transportation agencies, and 13 municipalities--represents a real challenge from the standpoint of communication, cooperation, and coordination.
