Abstract: In order to accommodate a rapidly growing population and stem worsening congestion on its roads, the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) has prescribed a major investment in public transport over the next 25 years. In 2008 Metrolinx, a transit authority for the GTHA, adopted the Big Move, a $C 50bn 25-year transport investment program whose goal is to bring 80% of the region's population within 2km of rapid transit. Details of financing and the various phases of the program are presented here.
