Currently, there are a proximately seventy five territories all over the world where English is spoken either as first language (L1) or as an official second language (L2). English is also the language most widely taught as a foreign language. Kachru divided the use of English into three concentric circles: the inner circle, the outer
circle and the expanding circle. The English in each circle has specific characteristics and features. Therefore, nowadays English has evolved into different kinds or varieties such as British English, American English, Australian English, etc. These variations of English are now termed as World Englishes The emergence of World Englishes poses a problem for countries in which English is learned as a foreign language, such as in Indonesia. The main problem is choosing the standard variety for the teaching of English. Choosing the standard variety is no an easy matter.
