Title: TRANSPORTATION PLANNING MODELS IN CANADA. VOLUME II - INVENTORY
Abstract: Effective development and use of computer modelling techniques requires the dissemination of information between persons and agencies developing models and between users and potential users. To that end, the goals of this project were to identify planning models currently in use in Canada or under development, identify the perceived strengths and deficiencies of these models, and to make recommendations for future directions in planning model development. Based on the results of a survey of over 335 Canadian transportation planning professionals, it was recommended that the following areas should be given a high priority in terms of improving the transportation planning process in Canada: 1) availability of travel behaviour data, 2) use of geocoded data, 3) trip distribution, and 4) modal split. A second level of priority has subjectively been given to the following areas: 1) geographic information systems, 2) truck movement forecasting, 3) evaluation models, and 4) graphics and user interfaces. The report is presented in two volumes: the final report is contained in Volume I, and Volume II is comprised of an inventory of the planning models currently in use or under development in Canadian jurisdictions.
