Title: Thermal analysis - techniques and applications
Abstract: The book, which is based on a short course held by the Thermal Analysis Consultancy Service of the University of Leeds, aims to provide an overview of the principal thermal methods and their application in major areas of importance. The instrumental topics covered include: differential thermal analysis (DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermogravimetry (TG), simultaneous TG/DTA/DSC, thermomicroscopy, high temperature X-ray diffraction, evolved gas analysis, thermomechanical analysis, and dynamic mechanical analysis. The potential of the technique of controlled rate thermal analysis is also assessed. A review of the role of quality assurance in the thermal analysis laboratory is included. The book has 16 chapters, one of which assesses the application of thermal analysis methods to fossil fuels and minerals. A short review of sources of information in thermal analysis is given.
