Title: URBAN ARTERIAL ROUTE PROGRAM IN NEW YORK STATE
Abstract: This article describes the inception (in or about 1947) of a comprehensive arterial route program in urban areas of New York State as part of its projected overall highway system. An overview of the master plan, based on traffic projections and requirements, fieldwork including origin and destination surveys, and a traffic census, is provided. Data acquisition methods, the determination of space relationships, parking issues, and funding concerns are discussed.
