Abstract: Gasoline prices spiked in the late summer of 2005, forcing travelers to explore their options. From carpooling to vanpooling to saving money by teleworking, commuters sought help from travel demand management (TDM) agencies across the country. Public policymakers also sought ways to refine policies, programs, and services to deal with the pinch of high gasoline prices. This article provides an overview of a book that attempts to address the opportunities and conditions for introducing TDM measures to the traveling public.
