Title: TRANSIT CAR RIDE QUALITY: PREDICTION, TEST AND IMPROVEMENT
Abstract: Techniques for evaluating rail car vibratory accelerations against various forms of ride quality criteria are discussed. The development of a computer program to predict these vibratory accelerations is described, and the results obtained from the program are validated by comparison with field test data and data obtained from laboratory vibration tests on a full-scale truck. An active suspension concept to improve ride quality is described, and laboratory test results of several candidate active suspension systems are presented.
