Abstract: This paper, presented to a combined meeting of the Institution of Engineers, Australia and the Australian Road Research Board, represents a review of work carried out in the Department of Theoretical Physics, General Motors Research Laboratories, in the field of vehicular traffic science with particular emphasis on specific and well defined problems that have been investigated from both the theoretical and experimental points of view. Among these problems are: single lane traffic flow, multiple lane traffic flow, merging and highway crossing, intersection problems, vehicle platoon and stability studies, as well as studies related to driver behaviour (A).
