Abstract: The city of Leipzig is a major center for trade fairs and economic activity in central Germany, with a population of around 600,000. The local public transit company operates 50 bus lines covering about 1,000 kilometers of routes spread over an area of some 800 square kilometers, as well as 20 light rail and tramway lines extending over about 300 kilometers. Of the 50 bus lines, 28 are served by a subsidiary which covers routes extending over roughly 490 kilometers.
