Abstract: Innovation in the transportation industry will in time attract more urban travellers to public transport. Getting more people onto buses and trains means expanding the public transport network. It also requires the available facilities to be more convenient and reliable. One of the basic reasons for people's lack of interest in public transport is the unpredictability of the service. Travellers like to be informed on the arrival and departure times of their transport. If a bus is the means of transport, then passengers would like accurate up-to-date information on timetable and bus arrival times. Surveys have indicated that reliable and easily available passenger information will attract more patrons to public transport. Bus public transport systems can provide acceptable convenience and comfort if sufficient attention is paid to efficiency and passenger information facilities. A system which delivers accurate, reliable and consistent information to passengers, while at the same time providing easy-to-use management facilities for operators would be well on the way to achieving the criteria for acceptance.
