Abstract: This article describes how one of the key achievements of Innotrack, the European Commission-funded project to significantly reduce track life-cycle costs, is the development of a new two-layer slab track system. The authors explain the benefits of the new system. The new two-layer slab track system is designed to bridge the gap between plain line formation improvement and conventional slab track. It is a generic design that can be used at difficult track location, but it has a principal target of aiding good geometry and switch and crossing (S&C) support.
