Title: A STUDY INVOLVING A MODEL OF A SECTION OF A FLOATING WAVE-BREAKER IN CONDITIONS OF THE PLANAR PROBLEM
Abstract: This article contains a review of the technological problems to be solved in the fabrication and erection of marine breakwaters, a discussion of some recent developments in related USSR and foreign technology, and a description of some current experimentation with breakwater models. Laboratory tests were performed on individual elements of a breakwater and on one section of a breakwater in a wave-race chute under the conditions of the planar problem, at a scale of 1:25. Also, the work of a wave break in three-dimensional conditions was investigated in a wave basin at a 1:15 scale, and a project was created to test an experimental wave-break model in natural conditions on a 1:4 scale. As the result of laboratory experiments on separate elements of wave breaks, a basic design for construction was determined. This design was further tested with the planar problem conditions at a model scale of 1:25. In these tests wave height reduction and anchor reactive forces corresponding to design parameter settings were measured. The authors recommend nine design dimensions and parameter values for optimal performance.
