Abstract: To be more competitive, railroads demand equipment that performs better, lasts longer and carries more. Freight car truck suppliers continue to seek ways to deliver on all three counts. Some new designs represent significant departure from conventional trucks. Many of these new trucks demonstrate not only improved ride quality, but lower maintenance requirements and longer service lives. The article examines some of the new designs.
