Title: ACHIEVING DIVERSITY IN THE TRANSPORTATION PROFESSION
Abstract: By the year 2000, almost two thirds of the new entrants into the workforce will be women and minorities. To optimize decision making processes it is necessary to assimilate the current and future diversity that will exist in our society. If this is accomplished through education and example, workforce diversity will become both natural and balanced within the transportation profession. If allowed to surface, diversity can be the tool many have been searching for to obtain better results. The authors define workforce diversity, how the US DOT addresses diversity, and ways to put diversity to work.
