Title: TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT CENTER (TMC) FUNCTIONALITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
Abstract: The U.S. Federal Highway Administration, in February 2000, announced plans for a 6-year, pooled-fund national study to examine and improve the way states and local government transportation management centers (TMCs) gather, synthesize, and disseminate traffic and traveler information. The national study participants, including the Florida Department of Transportation, will identify and address common operational issues. Research, development, and technology transfer studies being conducted by the participating states are also expected to address problems of national significance in TMC performance. This paper is intended to contribute to the national effort from Florida by defining countywide functionality requirements for transportation management in Miami-Dade County, while preserving the autonomy of existing TMCs within the county.
