Title: Willingness to Pay for Travel Time Savings with Contingent Valuation Surveys
Abstract: This paper aims to provide insight into factors that determine passengers' willingness to pay to reduce travel time for their ground access to an airport. An econometric model is estimated based on contingent valuation methods. To this purpose, stated preference data has been collected conducting a survey on departing passengers at the Athens International Airport. It was found that a high percentage of passengers reported an almost zero willingness to pay for certain reductions in their access time to the airport, and that willingness to pay is positively correlated with total travel time to the airport. The methodology and the models are structured in such a way that their transferability to any airport environment is possible, thus providing a useful tool for decisions relating to airport ground access measures.
