Title: LINEAR CALCULATION OF SEAKEEPING PROPERTIES OF SES, VALIDATION WITH TANK TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS OF THE FULL-SCALE VERSION
Abstract: The seakeeping behaviour of Surface Effect Ships (SES) is determined through a modified strip method for twin hulls which has been extended to treat the effects of the air cushion. The calculation is linear for a uniform sea state in the frequency domain. The calculation focuses on the behaviour of an SES at its typical operating point with speeds of 40 to 50 knots. The forces and moments acting on the craft in smooth water are assessed. The calculations of wave-induced motions are currently being evaluated with results from tank tests of a -scale model in regular waves as well as with seakeeping measurements of the equally shaped full- scale 35m SES.
