Title: PASSENGER AND EQUIPMENT SAFETY IN RAILWAY TRANSPORT. CHAPTER 6 IN: STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AND PASSENGER SAFETY
Abstract: The safety systems used in rail transportation and a background on them are presented in this paper. Two main applications are then discussed in some detail. The first application attempts to improve safety by detecting people or objects falling on or crossing the tracks. The second system deals with obstacle detection through the use of optical sensors.
