Title: RESIDENTIAL STREET MANAGEMENT IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Abstract: The history of traffic management in South Australia is reviewed, and traffic schemes are described, the purpose of which has been to create a different driving environment within the local access street network - that is a zone of care in which all road users, including unprotected cyclists and pedestrians, are offered the use of the street under safe conditions. Design guidelines for residential street management are given and procedures for residential street management projects are described. The evaluation of RSM projects is discussed. Project effectiveness measures were related to the cost of each of the projects. Reliable information and data on the degree to which various traffic control devices achieve set objectives are important to the planning and implementation of new RSM projects.
