Title: THE EFFECT OF A FOAMING AGENT ON THE COMPACTION PROPERTIES OF A SANDY SOIL
Abstract: A RESEARCH PROJECT WAS CARRIED OUT ON BEHALF OF THE C.S.I.R. ON THE COMPACTION OF SOIL IN ARID AREAS. ONE OBJECT OF THE STUDY WAS TO FIND A METHOD OF COMPACTION WHEREBY THE OPTIMUM MOISTURE NECESSARY FOR THE COMPACTION OF THE SOIL COULD BE REDUCED. THE INTRODUCTION OF A FOAMING AGENT IN VERY SMALL QUANTITIES COUPLED WITH THOROUGH AERATION OF THE SOIL BEFORE COMPACTION RESULTED IN A SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION IN THE WATER REQUIREMENT FOR COMPACTION THE EFFECT OF THE PRESENCE OF THE FOAMING AGENT ON THE CALIFORNIA BEARING RATIO HAS ALSO BEEN STUDIED AND THE RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN THIS PAPER. /AUTHOR/
