Abstract: This article discusses Network Rail's draft Route Utilisation Strategy, which identifies a range of opportunities to meet the projected increase in freight demand. The plan includes strategies ranging from timetable alterations to gauge enhancements and additional infrastructure. Although the plan is ambitious, rail freight companies believe that the plan doesn't go far enough. Concerns have also been raised about who would fund these initiatives.
