Abstract: It is generally accepted that a road safety objective is inherent in all aspects of the geometric design of road facilities. Indeed many of the standards and practice such as horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection sight distance provision of protected lanes for turning traffic etc are based almost entirely on safety criteria. This paper is concerned with the recognition and treatment of potential and actual accident producing elements of urban and rural roads.
