Title: THE GIS-T/ISTEA POOLED FUND STUDY: AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
Abstract: The Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, 41 U.S. State and Canadian Provincial Departments of Transportation, Sandia National Laboratories, nine private sector companies and the District of Columbia are sponsoring the Pooled Fund Study. This study is developing an information framework, which supports multi-modal and multi-jurisdictional transportation planning. The framework contains system designs, prototypes and non-proprietory information models incorporating the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) requirements for metropolitan and statewide transportation planning activities. It also incorporates the requirements for seven monitoring and management systems - bridges, highway pavement, traffic congestion, highway safety, traffic monitoring for highways, intermodal transportation facilities and systems, and public facilities and equipment. This paper presents an overview of the Study and describes the results for Phase I.
