Abstract: The program on Advanced Technology for the Highway is focused on three fields of technology - navigation, automatic control of vehicles, and non-contact electrification. This paper reports on the progress in the area of vehicle navigation and briefly addresses the other two areas of PATH research. Specifically, the authors present the goals, time framse, and technical approach being employed in the navigation tasks at the University of California. BATH is jointly sponsored by the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) and the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) of the University of California, Berkeley.
